A situational opener comments on something in the shared environment (the line, the book, the dog) instead of a canned opinion or a direct compliment. It is the ordinary-adult version of an opener. [1] House reading: situational plus honest interest is usually enough. Pure situational with no intent can stall in rapport forever.
