Polarization is running the interaction so she sorts you into yes or no instead of polite maybe. A joke with a point of view, a standard you will not drop, a sexual frame you do not apologize for — those split the room.[1]
Chase Amante's school prefers this to being universally likable. Universally likable is neediness in a friendly hat: you never risk a no, so you never get a real yes. Direct game is polarizing by default — you stated interest. Mystery-style negging was an older, clumsier polarizer.
House reading: polarize on taste and intent, not on cruelty. Making her feel small to "create a reaction" is a neg with a thesaurus. Enthusiastic consent is not optional because the bit was edgy.
