An approach invitation (AI) is an IOI that specifically means you may come over: held eye contact with a "well?" face, a smile from across the room, a comment thrown in your direction. A dead AI is the same look with no follow-through from her, or a look you invented. Mystery-era teaching said hunt AIs in clubs. Daygame and the Newbie assignment do not wait for them; they install the habit of opening anyway.
