A pickup artist (PUA) is a person who treats meeting and attracting partners as a trainable skill. The English-language seduction community of the late 1990s and 2000s — Mystery's club method and Neil Strauss's 2005 book The Game — made the label public. The word is used three ways: self-description, industry, and insult. History runs from Ellis and Weber through Jeffries and alt.seduction.fast to a post-2007 split: routine club game, inner-game brands, daygame, and fundamentals plus logistics.
