The pause

The pause is calibrated silence: you stop filling every second. Later pickup literature treats it as sexual tension and congruence — a man who can be quiet is not auditioning.[1]
Method
After a tease or a question, stop talking. Hold eye contact. Let her fill the beat. If she does, you have investment. If she does not, you lead — new topic or a move — you do not panic-fill.
The Newbie assignment still starts at talking. Silence is a later tool, on top of a conversation that already works.
Failure mode
A stare-down. That is tryhard with the volume off. Or pausing instead of having anything to say.
