Obstacle is Mystery-era jargon for the person in the way: a protective friend, a watching boyfriend-frame, a loud extra. Winning the obstacle (making her comfortable) is older club furniture. later pickup writing translates it as social pressure plus isolation.[1][2]
In practice
In practice: be decent to the friend. Do not make her the enemy. Get a two-person conversation. AMOG is a different problem (another man competing).
Vulgar 'cockblock' is the same object with worse manners. Encyclopedia of the term, not a license to be cruel.
