Qualification is screening her for traits you actually want, after she has shown some IOIs. Mystery put it at A3: she is interested; now she has to be interesting.

Two jobs at once:

1. You demonstrate standards (you are not a slot machine that pays on beauty alone).
2. She DHVs herself — cooking, books, travel, humor — so you have reasons to like her that are not her face.

In ordinary English this is "having standards" and "getting to know her." The pickup use is more tactical: asked too early, it is needy; asked after attraction, it is screening. The other, older sense of "qualify" in the community is approval-seeking (you qualifying yourself to her), which is the mistake A3 is meant to invert.
