Inner game is the psychological half: self-image, self-talk, outcome independence, abundance mentality, approach anxiety, one-itis. Outer game is what a bystander could film. Some writers map the split onto cognitive vs behavior therapy: inner game is cognition; outer game is behavior. Both beat either alone.[1]
Inner game is not the whole art. The late-2000s inner-game fashion often left beginners vaguer: they needed what to *do*. Outer game first; inner catches up once there is evidence.
Method
- Go outside. Inner-game training is dressed as homework: observation, posture, eye contact, talking to strangers, numbers. Affirmations without approaches are a stall.
- After a night, name the leak in one sentence: neediness, one-itis, waiting for an IOI, auto-rejection. That is a sticking point. Fix the behavior next time, not the poetry.
- Build a self that is not this girl: work, friends, body, a night that exists if she leaves. That is abundance and identity. Then congruence has something to match.
A common coaching line is that outer is easier to train, and inner catches up when outer is tight.
Other schools
RSD / "inner is everything." Useful as diagnosis (the hostage face). Useless as a reason to skip talking to people.
Mystery-era. Less vocabulary; freeze-ups still happened. They treated them as state, not as a lifestyle.
Failure mode
Reading inner-game essays instead of the assignment. Or the reverse: stacked routines with a mind that still believes one girl is the whole night.
