The Mystery Method (MM) is a stepwise model of club pickup published by Erik von Markovik and popularized by Neil Strauss's The Game. It is the source of a large fraction of still-living pickup artist jargon: DHV, IOI, negging, peacocking, kino, set, A3 qualification.

Structure

Mystery split an interaction into three phases, each with three steps:

Attraction	A1 open the set; A2 female-to-male interest; A3 qualification	Stop being a random male; become a man she might chase
Comfort	C1 conversation; C2 connection; C3 intimacy	Make the attraction survivable in daylight
Seduction	S1 foreplay; S2 last-minute resistance; S3 sex	Logistics and escalation

The practical claim: most beginners try to start at comfort (nice conversation, no spark) or jump to seduction (kino with no comfort) and lose. MM forces attraction first.

Characteristic tools

• Peacocking — visible, commentable style so the room opens you.
• Negging — a small status nick, not an insult, aimed at women who are bored of compliments.
• DHV stories — pre-selection, leadership, social proof, rather than money lists.
• False time constraint — "I can only stay a minute," to lower the perceived cost of the open.
• Bait, hook, reel, release — she invests; you reward; you pull back; she invests more.
• 3 IOIs then kiss — a calibration rule of thumb, not a law.

Afterlife

Later schools kept the diagnostics (IOI/IOD, DHV/DLV, kino ladder) and threw out the top hat. Chase Amante's Attractiveness fundamentals are explicitly not MM "game": they are the passive layer MM mostly assumed. Daygame kept direct intent and dumped club routines. The method still matters because the lexicon does.
